Co-creating and Ethical Framework Workshop

This in person workshop on the 3rd March was attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including people with lived experience of care and support and carers.

This was an opportunity to encourage people to mix with and talk to people they wouldn’t normally about what really matters in relation to care and support.

We started the session by rating peoples experiences against a series of statements taken from the Harwood Charter. The majority of attendees hadn’t heard of the charter before.

It was important that the approach and language used was as inclusive and interactive as possible.

This exercise showed that people feel that that it is ok and helpful to raise a concern at the higher end, but at the lower end people accessing services are not having their care reviewed when they want it reviewed and that when it is the feedback isn’t being used to build on what works and make services better, or that people were able to exercise their right to choose how and where their care/support was delivered.

The morning conversations focussed on personal feelings and experiences:

We explored our own experiences of receiving information, support or advice about the things that were important to us. Then did a creative activity about how it should feel with participants creating a visual representation of this.

The afternoon conversations were themed around 4 key themes:

  • How do we make sure services and support are the ones people want?
  • What does Norfolk need to do to make sure people’s care and support is right for them?
  • How will we know we are making a difference and people are living the life they want to?
  • What needs to happen to make sure people who work in services are the right kind of people and are valued?

Participants were invited to go where there heart wanted them to and to work on these in small groups, with time to go and review the other questions before the end of the session. (there is a typed appendix of all the boards)

Summary of feedback – online workshops: “Coproduction - need to have regular conversations with people who access services, we need to have a wider net to go and talk to people - i.e. John from health watch reviewing experiences of people with LD in care homes.”
