Be More Human
Be More Human is our north star! The 'Be More Human' concept is referenced in lots of places around the world. We really feel that this helps us all to be grounded in the fact that we are all human and this helps us all to meet on the same level as one another.

Be More Human Principles
PRINCIPLE: Everyone is valuable and has a contribution to make.
It is everybody’s business to ensure that:
- I have people supporting me who take the time to get to know me.
- I have a plan that was written with me.
- I am helped to make decisions by people who understand my point of view.
- I am supported by people who listen to me so they know how I want to live my life.
- We value people for who they are.
- We talk with people to find out what they are good at and what they want to do, and we include their ideas in their support plan.
- We work with people as equals. We all share what we know to make decisions together.
- We believe that everyone can tell us what they want if we take the time to listen.
- We will keep getting better at listening to what people say and how they communicate.
PRINCIPLE: Everyone needs to have a meaningful relationship.
Meaningful relationships help us feel loved, needed, wanted, and respected. It is everybody’s business to ensure that:
- I can meet people who enjoy the same things as I do.
- I can see my family, my friends, and other people who are important to me.
- If I want, I can learn new things such as volunteering or working.
- We make sure that people can keep in touch with family, friends, and others in the local area who are important to them.
- We ensure that people can make new friends and build relationships.
- We write support plans with people that include how they can join in local activities that are important to them.
- We help local groups by giving them a place to meet or a chance to learn new things.
PRINCIPLE: We want to support people to be themselves.
We do not expect people to fit into a shape of who we think they should be.
It is everybody’s business to ensure that:
- I can live the life I want. The people who support me see who I am and what I am good at.
- I feel safe because I know what can be dangerous.
- We do not guess about what people can or cannot do.
- We keep people safe without stopping them from doing what is important to them.
- We know what matters to people and we make sure those things happen.
PRINClPLE: People with learning disabilities and autism can live ordinary lives – they just need the right support.
It is everybody’s business to ensure that:
- I can plan my care and support with people who know and care about me.
- I have care and support from people who work well together.
- I live in a place that feels like home.
- My home has been changed to suit my needs.
- We talk to people to learn what they want to do, where they want to live, how they can be healthy, happy and safe, and how they can join in things that are important to them.
- We think about their care, support, and homes.
- We make sure that people’s plans mention being healthy and happy.
- We ensure that people have the right equipment and technology to feel safe and happy in their own home.
PRINCIPLE: No one should be left out.
Inclusion in all parts of society and life is everybody’s right
- I have a plan that was written with me. It includes how I can take part in my local community.
- We talk with people to discover what they want to do, where they want to live, how they can be healthy, happy and safe, and how they can join in things that matter to them.
- We see people as individuals who are able to do the things they want and that are important to them.
- We keep up to date with local events, groups, and chances to learn, and we share this information so people can join in.
